One of my favourite times of year to photograph engagements, families, and weddings is the Fall. Especially here in Calgary because there are so many natural areas and parks that are accessible and offer a lot of variety. Probably one of the more popular locations is Fish Creek Park, but I’m quite partial to Carburn Park because it’s less crowded, smaller, and very peaceful.
Not only are the colours of Fall in Calgary beautiful for photographs, but the light is different as well. It’s warmer and softer somehow, which really highlights the changing colours of the leaves. Photographers often try for a golden hour photo shoot, during the evening before sunset, because they know the light will be at its most flattering.
I was excited to be able to meet up with James and Kristen on a gorgeous Fall evening to capitalize on the colours and soft evening light. My goal for the evening was to capture their relationship and give them a really fun evening together.
This couple was delightful and easy to work with because they know how to laugh together and they clearly love each other. They were so ready to be cuddly, but then do or say something silly to make each other smile.
What struck me about these two is not only can you tell they love each other, they also have a deep bond of friendship. That friendship has carried them through rocky patches and will continue to do so as they grow together in love and genuine affection. These two were an inspiration to me in their tenderness and care. When you see how they truly cherish each other, it makes you want to go home and hug those you love a little harder.
